In our latest podcast, TEDX asks:
“How does fracking wastewater threaten our health and the environment?”
Millions of barrels of produced water, laden with toxic chemicals, come to the surface during oil and gas production. Chemical additives from fracking or other processes can be detected for up to a year after fracking occurs, while chemicals in formation water will be detected for the life of the well.
Listen to this 13 minute podcast, as Dr. Isabelle Cozzarelli, Research Hydrologist in the US Geological Survey National Research Program, discusses the wastewater cycle from fracking to disposal. She describes risks to human and environmental health from exposure to chemical contaminants, and talks about how nonprofit organizations are valuable contributors to discussions on current wastewater issues.
