The scoping information for NM BLM’s January 2017 Oil and
Gas Lease Sale is now available. According to the scoping
information, NM BLM is proposing to offer (some may be deferred
or removed) 4 parcels approximately 843 acres in the Farmington
Field Office. Scoping comments are due by June 20, 2016. BLM
deferred the Chaco parcels for the Oct 2016 lease sale......but
they have now included them for the Jan 2017 leases and
added an additional parcel.
Everyone should contact BLM in opposition of these leases and
in demanding an immediate moratorium on all drilling and fracking
in Greater Chaco, and an amendment to the Resource Management Plan
that is grounded in climate science and includes a comprehensive
Health Impact Assessments and a plan for just transitions to renewable
energy for the area.
BLM has been deferring parcels citing the need for further tribal
consultation. The June 20 scoping comment deadline is a great moment
to call attention to fracking in the area and highlight concerns
and messages from the Tri Chapter area and across the northern pueblos.
The *public scoping comment* period is open until 6/20/2016:
